Perhaps you can move this discussion to a virtual identical one that is already active. Miles per $

There are two economies to driving from point A to point B. How much fuel was used, how much did it cost. Obviously, GP does not collect 'trip' data, but the same would apply for fill ups. Many people will not always use the same gas station for fill-ups. If they did, one major purpose of GP would be eliminated? GP helps locate lowest cost stations, thus cost economy must have value to its users. However, lowest cost doesn't necessarily produce the lowest $PM. It's been pointed out that refactoring gas volumes for accurate costs would be highly difficult. I submit the same for MPG. A gallon of the same rated gas (octane/ethanol) from two different stations can produce different MPGs due to the unlisted additives each uses in there formulation. Thus MPG estimates fall to the same refactoring issue for accuracy. A MP$ or $PM average, as simple as the MPG calculation, would be useful to those using the site for cost economy.

scrap the entire idea of factoring the cost of fuel OR making it optional. It's quite cumbersome as is to add the fuel information. For me, I fill up in the USA most of the time yet my profile is within Canada. The log book insists I enter the cost per litre when in fact, it's gallons.

i think we should scrap the idea of cost involved because the price at the pump is quite variable. For me, I am more concerned about my mpg rating not the total cost spent per mile. However, I can see the usefulness of having this feature.
